Birmingham City University student studying: Media and Communications BA hons (Broad course)


Objective: I’d love to gain entry into a successful media company where my enthusiasm, passion and skills are recognised are utilized and developed to help me progress within the industry.

Experience:

March - May 2011: Production event: Print magazine editor and food co-ordinator
  • Joint editor of a print magazine that was distributed to over 300 people
  • Organised all the food for the event including money management, organizing chefs and health and safety
  • Raised around £100 through fundraising to go towards the print magazine.

September 2010: Writer and blogger for Fused magazine:
  • Blogging: Organised two blogs for the magazine as well as generating my own posts to be included on the site.
  • Research: Doing research into local events and exhibitions to provide ideas for other writers and to contribute my own articles.
  • Writing: Several of my articles were used in both internet sites and also two of my articles were published in their September edition.
  • Communicating with new writers daily and developing professional relationships with them.
  • Emailing relevant local contacts to get information on events to aid magazine content.

September 2008 – May 2010: FreakEd college magazine:
  • Writer: In my first year in college I wrote several entertainment articles for the magazine which were all published.
  • Organiser: Me and my friend organised two local gigs to raise money for the magazine which were extremely successful and generated £600 for both charity and the magazine.
  • Editor: In my second year I took over the magazine and made editorial decisions, organised meetings, established contacts and connections and also organised the whole writing team.
  • Contacted several people in regards to bands for our gigs, printers, people for advertising space and also local music venues.

October 2006 – Work experience placement at Trilby Multimedia LTD:
  • Learnt to use new software and techniques such as green screen.
  • Worked within the business structure to generate creative content to represent the company.

NCFE’S: Animation: Pass and Video Production: Pass.


Skills:
  •  Research skills: essay research, research for articles via leaflets, tracking Twitter hash tags, library and the internet.
  • ICT Skills: strong with words, blogs, internet explorer, Twitter, email and I have basic skills in some HTML, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign.
  • Willingness to learn: I have a strong enthusiasm spurred by my current experiences in the media and my passion for what I’ve learnt.
  • Teamwork: Extremely used to working in teams of varying sizes to generate fantastic results in a lot of different environments.
  • Problem solving: Used to dealing with technological problems so always has some back up either written or virtually, used to working with a low budget within a set deadline.
  • Communication skills: Can communicate with a variety of people in a suitable way. And I can produce a strong critical opinion within my work and I’m not afraid to communicate with new people with confidence and ease.
  • Self-motivation: I can achieve a high standard of work alongside my job and developing my professional skills.
  • Dependability: I’m rarely late and always plan ahead and if anything does ever happen I’m prepared with contact details to inform somebody.
  • Creativity: can develop my own creative ideas within a team and individually to contribute to idea generation and also the final product. I’ve also had some of my photography published and won an award for my creative animation project.
  • Writing skills: Had several articles published and distributed.

Interests
My variety of interests includes magazine journalism, new media, cinema, television, photography, the film industry, traveling and blogging.
